Books to Read April 2014

How many books did you read in March? I read the amount of books that I committed to reading,  just not the same ones I selected, so I am giving myself the opportunity to try it again. Since 2014 is the Year of Reading Women (#readwomen2014) it is all good. A major lesson that I have learned over the past two years is to be gentler on myself. Books to Read April 2014

In case you missed it, please read Books to Read March 2014 to find out the books that we were supposed to be reading, or I should say, the books that I was supposed to be reading. One of my regular readers, who has been reading my posts for a few years now, told me that she is not into the classics. Since I do not want to isolate my readers, and I want to stick to my informal liberal arts education, I commit to including a few other books each month on the list of books to read. For April, I am listing books that were mailed to me for review that I want to read, in addition to one that I purchased.

Other Books to Read in April 2014

  1. The Decoded Company: Know Your Talent Better Than You Know Your Customers by Leerom Segal, Aaron Goldstein, Jay Goldman, and Rahaf Harfoush: I attended an Ivey School of Business Idea’s Forum and this book was included. The event was a fantastic one and the book is about personalization of policies, tools and procedures.
  2. The Executive Checklist: A Guide for Setting Direction and Managing Change by James M. Kerr: It’s important to set direction to move through change.
  3. Leadership Transformed: How Ordinary Managers Become Extraordinary Leaders by Dr Peter Fuda: This book is supposed to assist managers in moving into leadership roles.
  4. Brief: Make a Bigger Impact by Saying Less by Joseph McCormack: This is a book about being brief. See Joe’s guest post, The Art of Silence and the Professional Pause. I will feature his interview in April as well.
  5. The Plateau Effect: Getting from Stuck to Success by Bob Sullivan and Hugh Thompson: I purchased this book because I read about it and thought that I would get some tips on how to get moving again when things have stalled.
  6. Manage Your Day-to-Day: Build Your Routine, Find Your Focus, and Sharpen Your Creative Mind (The 99U Book Series): Focus on the important things in life.

I seldom ever read business books, but since most of these books were mailed to me, I thought that I have to find the time to read them. And there may be people who read this blog who like business books. Have you read any of the books on the list for April? Were they worth reading?
